Project Description
The Recycling Smart App encourages recycling in Boston by offering rewards and discounts while tracking users' recycling activities. Focused on plastic bottles and aluminum cans, the app promotes sustainable habits through its incentive system.
The Problem
In the U.S., only 30% of plastic bottles and 45% of aluminum cans are recycled. People may not recycle for several reasons, including:
- Lack of access to recycling bins.
- Social pressure or confusion about what materials can be recycled.
- Uncertainty about where to go or how to begin recycling.
The Solution
The Recycling Smart App makes recycling easier and more fun. It encourages people to recycle more by offering:
-Tracking progress: Users can see how much they’ve recycled.
-Rewards: Users can unlock rewards like discounts on the MBTA and attractions in Boston.
-Map feature: The app provides a user-friendly map to help users locate nearby recycling machines.
